Originally from Dumfries, Jonnie played amateur golf to +2 handicap. After Completing a Management Degree at Glasgow University Jonnie worked in Marketing until the age of 28 when he changed careers and became a Golf Professional. Jonnie wanted to give back to the game that has given him such great pleasure and friendships over the years and help others achieve their golfing goals and get maximum enjoyment from the game. “I am a Golf Pro because I absolutely love the game and helping golfers improve.”
Taking over as Head Professional at Murrayfield in 2007, Jonnie has worked closely with all levels of golfers from beginner to Tour Professional and has over 15 years of top level coaching. 5 of our Juniors have gone on to scholarships in the USA, one of whom won The Scottish Boys Championships and one now playing to +4 and turning pro. However, most of the golfers Jonnie works with are normal club golfers trying to make small improvements and get more enjoyment from their game.
Jonnie continually attends PGA CPD courses to gain more knowledge of the game on everything from putting to driving to psychology and fitness. Jonnie has over 60 golf books on everything from fitness to driving to mental game.
“I really believe in having an open mindset to golf improvement, everyone can improve regardless of how good they are right now. With a bit of work and effort, everyone can get better at and enjoy their golf more. Everyone is unique and in order to bring about positive change I focus on how we use the club to create the shots. We do not work on swing changes for the sake of them, rather, improved club movements to produce different shots. This is why every swing looks different, it is unique to you, the individual. My approach is simple and backed by scientific research.”

“Firstly I’m a dad and husband, I’m a golf nut and have loved the game since I was 12 years old. I don’t play nearly as much as I would like but still want to improve, and I love being around other golfers, helping them and exploring their games.”
